Organic chemistry can be used widely in scientific research and production practice. As a primary discipline, during its development, many peculiar thinking methods and strategy have being formed. In this way, it plays a unique important role in fostering a scientific accomplishment with the citizens. The sharp conflict between more content and less course time, as well as the complexity and variability of high school organic chemistry since the New Curriculum Reform drives the test questions in NMET from knowledge function to ability function, which asks for higher thinking abilities of the high school students. So it becomes harder for them to learn the organic chemistry. Thus, it is so urgent to know about the thought patterns of high school students of different levels in order to find out their learning barrier and the effective solution. The survey was conducted among 190 students from one experiment class, one key class and one ordinary class in grade 3 in No.7 high school of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, choosing 105 quizzees to serve as reviewed object. This study is divided into three stages. The first stage is to get to know the thinking barriers and its causes of the high-achieving student, medium students and underachievers through questionnaire survey and interviews; the second stage is to identify their differences in thinking ability and ability to solve problems.; the third stage is to probe into problem-solving strategies of organic chemistry, based on their different learning ability on different knowledge modules. The study concludes that there exist differences among the students of different levels in the thinking ability of organic chemistry learning, ranking (from high to low) is the high-achieving students, the medium students and the underachievers.By solving the spatial structure of the isomers and the organic molecules, high-achieving students improve their thinking ability. And medium students improve their thinking ability by deducing organic chemical response process and mastering the organic reactions principle, while the underachievers improve by understanding the structure and nature of the organic chemistry and using them with great flexibility. In all, through the level teaching method, the students’thinking ability of organic chemistry will be increased in an upward spiral.
