According to the "National Chinese Curriculum standard for Compulsory Education", to actively promote the learning methods which emphasize independence, cooperation and inquiry is regarded as one of the basic concept of curriculum. The curriculum concept section of "Chinese Curriculum standards for Shanghai middle and primary schools” also points out that students should be encouraged to " gradually develop the problem consciousness and cultivate the ability of inquiry-based learning ". However, in practice, this ability doesn’t get enough attention. The development teachers pay more attention to teaching than students’ learning, and value knowledge acquisition more than ability development. The traditional direct instruction has the obvious weakness in cultivating students, " problem consciousness, ability of practice, and an open mind”.Mini-topic based Chinese learning came into being from practice with reference to the concept of "inquiry-based learning", "project-based learning" and "unit teaching method". The writer puts forward her own proposition and conception on the basis of her exploration in practice. The thesis introduces and discusses the idea and implementation of Mini-topic based Chinese learning based on the study of related theories.Mini-topic based Chinese learning values highly mutual understanding, trust and equality between teachers and students. The learning activities focus on a certain problem in the field of study and daily life in order to discover new knowledge, solve problems and experience the generation and development of knowledge(conclusion). With regard to the implementation of Mini-topic based Chinese learning, the thesis illustrates how to design and implement three models: "the accumulation of knowledge", "the exploration of methods" and "comprehensive practice". The thesis also analyzes and reflects on the implementation effect. This thesis aims at exploring the way of cultivating students’ independence, cooperation and the spirit of inquiry, to encourage students to master the method and strategy of inquiry-based learning, and to provide an approach and some cases to improve students’ Chinese learning ability and Chinese literacy in multiple ways.
