Painting is recognized worldwide as the most suitable for infants and young children to read picture books, picture books to promote in the background, kindergarten picture books have also carried out teaching,Under this background, picture books reading and teaching has been carried out in kindergartens. As the youngest class in kindergarten, baby regard painting as new materials. There is no mature training mechanism for teachers of infant class. Besides, painting has a variety of style and themes itself. Therefore, it is difficult for teachers to process in practice. The author of this thesis is located in the southwest area of China, where the teaching of painting develops slowly, compared with the developed economic regions. Consequently, this study focuses on investigating the current situation of local reading in baby painting class. The study aims to investigate the current situation of painting teaching in kindergarten baby class in the city of Chengdu, and put forward related suggestions to the existing problems, with the hope of providing data for teachers of baby class in the future.The subjects of this study are 40 baby class teachers, randomly selected from 8 different levels of kindergartens. By analyzing the subjects on the aspect of teachers’ understanding of picture books, the current teaching situation of reading on picture books, its implementation, the cooperation between teachers and parents, the usage of picture books on reading, its related activities. The DV camera is applied to record the alive teaching activities with picture books. Then the problems that existing in baby teaching with picture books will be analyzed in the aspects of teaching goal, teaching content, teaching process, and the extended activities. Except analyzing their reasons, the author interviews 10 teachers, randomly selected from the subjects.Final conclusion is got that there are positive results in baby class teaching with picture books in kindergarten in Chengdu. On one hand, teachers choose picture books diversely and properly; on the other hand, they pay more attention on the development of babies’ emotion and ability.However, there are some problems. Firstly, teachers do not accept enough training so that they are lack of guidance. Secondly, the environment of reading need to be improved. Thirdly, teachers need to make distinction between picture books and other books with pictures. Fourthly, teachers’ ability of choosing picture books is weak. Fifthly, teachers’ recognition between teaching goals and activities does not agree with each other. Moreover, the teaching form of picture book is quite ossified and stereotypical. Last but not least, the cooperation consciousness between teachers and parents is very weak.To save the above problems, the author offers some suggestions in the following: Reading needs to win more attention. And the recognition of picture books needs to be improved by the society from all walks of life. Besides, the academic cooperation between kindergartens and universities and reading activities need to be carried out. The environment of material and spirit in reading area needs to be improved as well. Moreover, teachers need to improve their literary accomplishment and teaching ability of picture books. They can apply diverse teaching methods, and extend more related activities. Finally, strengthen the cooperation between teachers and parents and promote cooperation with communities.
