Art education in high school is necessary to develop students’ comprehensive quality. By experiencing, appreciating and expressing, art appreciation classes are helpful to develop students’ appreciation of beauty and let them know more about relationship of art between history and life. The main requirement of Senior New Curriculum Standard is to develop students’ appreciation, so it has become the criteria to judge the effect of art appreciation classes.Students in high school are in the key phase of forming the appreciation of beauty. Teachers in senior school should make full use of the characteristics of this stage and adapt advancing teaching method to instruct them to explore and appreciate the beauty in art works.According to students’ special characteristics and different teaching content, teachers could organize teaching activities in a more proper way and adapt reasonable teaching method. Art appreciation class lays more emphasis on the development of students’ appreciation of beauty and their overall quality by letting them experience, appreciate, evaluate and create beauty. Based on students ’ physical and psychological traits in senior high school, the thesis analyzes traditional teaching models, current situation of implementation and concludes how to develop senior high school students’ appreciation of beauty.
