This paper attempts to study the contents of Yanagita Kunio’s female image, in farming and settlement for the sector, Yanagita Kunio’s female image is divided into two parts, namely housewife and witch. One has been authority of a family as housewife, that is an authority in the family, helps husband manage the family, a female image as a mother; the other is once existed in the history and gradually transformed witch image, that is mastered the power of faith to sacrifice gods, unify belief, and spread the image of cultural female. Through research and interpretation customes and beliefs legendary, Yanagita Kunio restored the important role of Japanese female in the traditional mode of lifestyle and beliefs.The text of this paper is divided into three chapters.The first chapter discusses the background and causes of Yanagita Kunio’s folklore and female image. Yanagita Kunio is the generation of social generation in morden Japan. His personal experience、contradictory social reality and changes in government-led mainstream thinking all have an impact on his thought.The second chapter summarizes and analysis the writings of Yanagita Kunio, summarizes the contents and characteristics included in Yanagita Kunio’s female image. Yanagita Kunio’s female image can be broadly divided into two categories, that is housewife and witch. By superfluous-in marriage and right transfer of housewife, the female as the main labor force in rice farming gradually to inherit family, but with the development of labor, the female’s status is replaced, coupled with changes in superfluous-in marriage into married marriages, housewives change from the householders to subsidiaries within the home.
