Since the rise of online games,it has gradually developed into a huge industry.In recent years,online games have also been constantly updated and "evolved." As online games become part of popular art,there are still many controversies in performances such as sex,gender,and ethnicity.In order to observe the gender relations in the media field of online games,especially the performance of female images in online games.This paper gathered and analyzed a total of 79 online game samples from 1996 to 2018.The main contents are as follows:The introduction part includes the research background and significance,the research summary and the innovations and deficiencies of the research design.The first part of this paper mainly observes and describes 79 online game samples and397 female character samples from four aspects: shape design,personality shaping,ability and occupation type setting.It has combed three different stages,the first stage is from 1996 to 1999;the second stage is from 2000 to 2008;the third stage is from 2009 to 2018.According to the four criteria,the outstanding characteristics of the female characters at each stage and the proportion of the online games that match the characteristics in the total number of samples are summarized.The second part of the thesis mainly summarizes the characteristics and changes of the female characters in each stage of the online game described in the first part.It is found that the shape design of female characters in three stages gradually changes from realistic style to sexy and exposed style;the character shaping of female characters gradually develops from thin to vivid,and there are also characters that are out of reality.The ability tends to be weak,the types of occupations and identities are gradually marginalized,and the disparity in the number of male and female sexual roles is gradually widening.The third part of the thesis mainly combines the observation and induction of the first two parts,and analyzes the reasons for the existence of female characters in online games from the perspective of social concept,online game developer level and player level.It is believed that there are three reasons for this: social ideas,the purpose of game developers to pursue interests,and the psychological expectations of game players.The fourth part of this paper is based on the defects of current female role modeling,and puts forward a positive strategy for the construction of female characters in online games.It isbelieved that game developers should conform to the social trend of gender equality and abandon the corrupt concept of gender.In the design process of online game,use bisexual thinking and remove the stereotype of "male and female".Eliminate the image design of pornography and shape the image of women who conform to modern civilization.Moreover,Combining the feminine characteristics of the new era,creating a more independent and autonomous female image,creating a more stereoscopic and diverse female role image to create a new environment of more equal,harmonious and healthy online games.
