As a hot issue in the field of education evaluation, the school self-evaluation has received widespread attention at home and abroad. Since the 1990 s, the Britain began to attach importance to the school self-evaluation. In order to promote the implementation of school self-evaluation in the field of basic education, the OFSTED has issued a lot of documents which made specific provision about school self-evaluation principles, standards, procedures and so on. After several decades of development, the the school self-evaluation has become an important component of external inspection and made a great contribution to school improvement, development and the improvement of the quality of education.It also becomes the main trend of the education inspection reform. The experience of school inspection was learnt by many countries. In recent years, the studies on British school self-evaluation in China is also growing. Based on predecessors’ research, this thesis will explore how to implement the school self-evaluation in Britain and analyze the effect and characteristics of its implementation.The main content of the thesis conclude the following parts:The introduction part puts forward the fundamental problem and summarizes the literature about school self-evaluation research. It also puts forward the objective and significance of my research. At last, it defines the concept of school self-evaluation and so on.The first chapter analyzes the background from government’s emphasis on basic education, the reform of, the influences of economic theory and the shortcomings of outer inspection. At the same time, it analyzes the developing process of school self-evaluation in basic education field.The second chapter analyzes the theoretical basis, goals, method, procedures, andcriteria of school self-evaluation,The third chapter analyzes the implementation of school self-evaluation which sets Eliot Bank as a case.The fourth chapter analyzes the effect of school self-evaluation from school, OFSTED, and local education authority. Meanwhile it points out some problems of it.The last chapter concludes the characters of school self-evaluation in basic education field.
