| With the advance of a new round of elementary education curriculum reform, school-based curriculum development became a hot issue of educational reform in the early 21 st century in China. On the basis of Skilbeck curriculum development theory, the school-based curriculum development and operation are discussed in Primary School of Zhangzhou Foreign Language School, hoping to provide some feedback for further development and revision in the future.This paper focuses on the theoretical basis of the curriculum development, the basic principles, objectives, content and the implementation of curriculum. With the data collected through text analysis of the school-based textbooks, academic assessments, student questionnaires and interviews with teachers, the school-based textbooks of Zhangzhou Foreign Language School have been analyzed and evaluated. A conclusion can be drawn from this paper that the development of this school-based curriculum meets the "New Curriculum Standard" requirements, and it is also in accordance with Skilbeck school-based curriculum development process, including situational analysis, target preparation, the development of curriculum programs, interpretation and implementation of the curriculum, the tracking and reconstruction of programs. The results of the teaching practice win the recognitions of teachers and students of English teaching and it achieves the desired effect of arousing students’ interest and self-confidence in learning English. It’s critical to change the ideas and methods of the first and second grades in the elementary school, revealing its nature as a communicative tool, free from the exam-oriented education.However, there is some room for improvement. The development of school-based curriculum needs the guidance and expertise of specialists or consultative panel. The subject involved in the development is relatively simple. The supplementary materials of the school-based curriculum still fall short of the teachers’ needs; therefore they need to be further developed. The motivation and ability to participate in the development of the school leaders and teachers can be further promoted. In addition, the professionalism of teachers also needs to be enhanced. |
