The scientific method education is an important way to improve students’ scientific literacy.With the development of the new senior high school curriculum reform, the status of scientific education in basic education has been increasing. The ministry of education issued "the full-time ordinary senior high school geography curriculum standard(experimental draft)" in April 2003.It sets "process and method" as one of the three-dimensional curriculum goals, and as the key part of the geography curriculum goals. Meanwhile, it makes clear requirements in the evaluation. This shows that the scientific method education of geography plays an important role in geography teaching. However, the current domestic research for geography scientific method education is relatively lack. It is very urgent and necessary to focus on continuously scientific methods of geography education related issue.On the basis of relevant research of scientific methods of education at home and abroad,and the basic concepts of geography scientific method and content of education, this paper uses qualitative and quantitative methods to investigate the knowledge of geography, study status,effective ways, problems and influencing factors in senior high school. What’s more, it takes the constructivism, cognitive learning theory, experiential learning theory and multiple intelligence theory as the theoretical basis. And it takes four different levels of senior high school students in Nanning City as the research subjects.It surveyed four senior high school in Nanning City in the form of questionnaire. The questionnaire covered three classes in senior high school and issued 1200 student questionnaires,and 48 teachers questionnaires, 1075 valid questionnaires of students and 48 valid teachers questionnaires were received. On the one hand, according to the student questionnaire analysis,it mainly includes:Students have realized the importance of geographical scientific method education, but students did not pay attention to the scientific method of learning geography in the learning process. Students generally have a good grasp on geographical induction, but geography experiment, observation and deduction need to be strengthened. Students lack theability to select the appropriate scientific methods depending on geographic content.The students learn geography scientific method mainly by teacher lecture and exercises, not by extracurricular activities. So the ways of learning geography method needs to be widened.Most students want to enhance teacher-student interaction and mutual learning geography science methods. On the other hand, according to the teacher questionnaire analysis, it mainly includes:Teachers have recognized the importance of geographical scientific method education,but the level of themselves needs to be improved. It lacks of scientific method education content in the current teacher training. The geographical scientific method education is not carried out effectively in actual teaching.The general situation of the geography education of scientific method is not ideal; The reasons that hinder teachers’ scientific method education are the lack of teaching strategies, the lack of attention, the lack of teachers’ team, and students weak foundation and so forth.Aiming at the main problems existing in the education of scientific methods in geography teaching process, this paper proposes some methods to optimize senior high school geography scientific education: To construct the target system of scientific method education of geography;To enrich the content of geography scientific method education;To deepen students’ understanding of the scientific method education;To strengthen students’ ability to put the scientific method geography into practice, and the scientific method for pre-service teacher education, and in-service training.
