Senior high School ideological and political course has strong theoretical and practical properties. It requires teachers to correctly impart knowledge in the teaching process and to help students to establish a correct outlook on world, life and values. It also requires students to master textbook knowledge and theories which would guide them in practice and help them to put into practice. However, there is still a big gap between the implementation effect and the theories in the course. The teaching situation and the effect of the ideological and political course are unsatisfactory that the students could not grasp the concrete textbook knowledge, nor could they put what they have learnt into practice. The reason is that senior high school teachers of ideological and political course haven’t found effective teaching methods. Therefore, it is of great importance to adopt Example-illustration method in teaching ideological and political course. The correct teaching method will yield twice the result with half the effort. Correct and feasible teaching methods will fully mobilize the enthusiasm of students, make the classes lively, and promote teacher-student relationship, etc. Example-illustration teaching method is to apply examples and Example-illustrations to testify the principles or the arguments in the textbook. It can develop students’ analytical and thinking skills, and make teaching and learning better integrated. As a new teaching method, Example-illustration method has achieved remarkable success in senior high school ideological and political course. This paper first introduces the concepts of Example-illustration method and illustrate the importance of adopting it in senior high school ideological and political course: to make the ideological and political teaching content keep pace with the times, improve students’ interest, help students to establish a correct outlook on world, life and values, promote the relationship between the teachers and the students and the relationship between teaching and learning, and to improve the teachers’ ability and capability. Then the paper elaborates the specific implementation of Example-illustration method in the teaching of ideological and political course in senior high school, including the design of Example-illustration, the presentation of Example-illustration, the analysis of Example-illustration and the summary of Example-illustration. Combining with his own teaching experience, the author exemplifies a specific application of Example-illustration methods in a class. At last, this article gives the thoughts of Example-illustration method of the author on senior high school ideological and political course teaching.
