According to the New English Curriculum Standards (short for NECS) in 2003, English teaching in the high school stage aims to cultivate students’comprehensive language competence of which calls for the overall development of students. Therefore, teachers need to train students in accordance with their cognitive features and their age characteristics. Homework, as part of teaching is a way of detecting the teaching effect and students’ personal learning, as well as a good opportunity for out-of-class learning. Therefore, cultivation of comprehensive ability of language is closely related to homework.Based on a careful study of the related literature both at home and abroad, the author did a survey of the current situation of English homework in city of Baise in Guangxi province from its assigning, correcting, and the attitude with 220 students and 30 teachers in three senior high schools as subjects.The major findings can be summarized as follows:The present situation of current English homework in senior high school can be stated in the following four aspects. In terms of the content and form, the current form is relatively simple and rigid and the current content is poor. In terms of the quantity, up to 75.13% of students do not think the present English homework is too much, but the total amount of homework is large and the difficulty is lack of hierarchy. In terms of the evaluation and feedback, teacher is still the subject of the evaluation and feedback of the present English homework, and the way of homework correcting is simple. In terms of the attitude, most students in the study hold a relatively positive attitude towards English homework. By analyzing the problems, some appropriate suggestions are offered to help the teachers make a deeper understanding of English homework and push forward the reform of English homework research and exploration in senior high school in Guangxi province.
