A Research On Social Work Intervened Into Community Foster Care For Adult With Mental Disability

Disability, a social cost during the reproduction of human being and the development of society. The disabled is the group with the most significant problems among all kinds of vulnerable groups in China. Especially the mental disabled, because of body and mental illness and the prejudice of social cognition which is far behind same age people in self-care, study, entertainment, social communication and professional capability, needs individuals, families, communities and the society to cooperate to provide more attention and help to participate in the normal social activitiesSince the year of 2009, China Disabled Person’s Federation(CDPF) has implemented the plan of ‘Sunshine Home’, which created a 5-in-One model based on Foster Care Center from the government, Sunshine Home from the sub-district, Daily Care Station from the community, Home Service from the family and Foster Care Organization from the private suppliers, to provide a platform for the disabled person to help them to integrate themselves to the society.This article takes the Sunshine Home of M sub-district in Shenyang as an example. It describes a whole picture of Sunshine Home’s community foster care and analyses the necessity and feasibility of by demonstrates the problems of organization services. Guided by the theory of strengths perspective and ecosystem, it uses the professional methods of social work, to take a research on social work intervened into community foster care for. It’s expected to take an experience of community foster care for adult with mental disability.The article has 5 parts. The first part is the introduction to introduce the research background, the research purpose and the reference. The second part presents the concept, the summary and the research method. The third part states the analysis of the background and present of Shenyang community foster care for adult with mental disability. The forth part introduces the practice procedure of Sunshine Home’s community foster care intervened by social work, included the individual coach to increase the ability of person with mild mental disability social adaptation and the interfering work of mental disability watcher team. The last part is the research conclusions and policy suggestion.
