The main purpose of the study is to explore the effect of pre-class learning plan on students’ pre-class learning performance. The study aims to investigate the main factors that affect students’ pre-class learning performance, to arouse their pre-class learning awareness, to develop their pre-class learning habits, to improve their pre-class learning effect and thereby to some extent to promote classroom efficiency by the application of pre-class learning plan.Based on the analysis of relevant theories, the research statements and the reference of similar research examples, considering the realities of teaching situation of the author, students from two parallel classes of Grade Three from a rural primary school in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province were chosen as the participants of the experiment. At the beginning of the experiment, a pre-questionnaire (Appendix Ⅰ) was given for both the EC and the CC and an interview (Appendix Ⅱ) was arranged for three English teachers to investigate the main factors that affected students’ pre-class learning performance. According to the results of the investigation, the main factors were analyzed from the aspect of students, the aspect of teachers and the aspect of parents. And the analysis gave a direction and proposed some demands for the design of pre-class learning plan.Based on the contents and the student levels, the results of the investigation and suggestions of peer teachers, the samples of plan were designed and carried out in the EC, and were adjusted and improved according to the performance of students and their suggestions. In order to test the effect of the plan on students’ pre-class learning performance, three corresponding tests (Appendix Ⅴ) were designed and taken for both the EC and the CC after each pre-class learning plan or homework. The students’ participation and the time allocation of the EC and the CC before and after the experiment were recorded and compared. At the end of the experiment, the post-test (Appendix Ⅶ) and the post-questionnaire (Appendix Ⅷ) for both classes were adopted to prove that there existed a significant difference in both classes after the experiment. And the experiment effect was discussed from three aspects:the development of students, the improvement of teachers and the changes of parents. At last, according to the reference of existing theories and similar research examples, the suggestions of peer teachers, the process and the results of the experiment and the requirements of the students, three main principles were concluded:to make the objectives clear and concrete, to make the tasks ladder-like and interesting and to make the evaluations tangible and effective.By this experimental study on the application of pre-class learning plan in primary school English teaching, several conclusions are drawn and some pedagogical implications are suggested. However, there still exist some certain limitations waiting to be improved.
