With the growth of English teaching reform and the discovery of the potential of reading ability, this skill, one of the four basic essential skills to learn English, namely listening, speaking, reading and writing, has attracted more and more attention. If the potential reading ability is fully developed and the problems of how to read, what to read, why to read are solved, the reading level will be raised and students’English learning growth will be enormous. By improving reading ability, the channel for students to acquire knowledge will be broadened, and strong interest in learning English will be cultivated in a better way. Furthermore, it will also help students develop more self-confidence to learn and use English well; at the same time, the improvement in reading ability will also have a positive effect on the rest of the three basic language abilities. With the development of reading ability, the level of listening, speaking, and writing will naturally improve. From this we know, reading ability plays a very important role in English language learning. Reading is not only a platform for students to master different aspects of the language, but also a method to train students’ autonomous learning ability; at the same time it is an important way for students to acquire knowledge from different fields. This study, based on elementary students’physical and mental characteristics, discusses the primary school English reading teaching design principles. For example, the teacher should understand students’ reading psychology in order to meet their reading needs. The teacher should also stimulate the students’interests, encourage them to read more, train them in effective reading methods, help them develop better reading habits, train them with English reading strategies and so on. The study also uses a variety of forms and means to explore the methods of Process Orientation, Cognitive Standard Method, Real Orientation Method, Changing Positioning Method and Learning Style and adapt them to the primary school English reading teaching design. We have combined these methods to optimize the effective strategy of primary school English reading teaching, and constructed the basic model of English reading in primary schools, calling it The PWP teaching model. It is mainly composed of three parts:pre-reading, while-reading, post-reading. Pre-reading stage takes place before reading activities; it is mainly designed according to these themes:to guide students’ reading interest, to focus on the relevant schemata, and to provide the necessary preparation for the target language. Therefore this stage takes place during the pre-reading and preparation stage. While-reading stage includes the doing of activities when you read; this is the most critical part of teaching. During this stage students acquire information from the reading material, cultivate and improve their reading ability, and master reading strategies. The post-reading stage, which is related to the students’personal experience, includes the activities done after reading; it is the consolidation of the story content after reading and the use of acquired knowledge. The PWP teaching model will help students improve language ability and reading comprehension. This study includes two cases studies and an analysis of the primary school English reading teaching, which demonstrate the feasibility of the PWP teaching model. In teaching practice, the study of a primary school English reading teaching model has important significance. The primary school period is the first stage for the students to cultivate their English reading habits, and whether the foundation is stable or not will largely affect the learning of English in the future. Scientific and standardized reading teaching models, and individualized models of reading teaching will all lay a good and stable basis for English learning in primary school; it is a good foundation for their lifelong development. This article effectively combines theory with practice, and will have a positive impact on primary school English reading teaching.
