Conflict And Integration Of The Dual-Structure And Culture In Basketball Development

At the ending of the19th century Basketball is created by an American named James Naismith, who had never expected that basketball can become the most vital and influential game through the past100years. Nowadays, basketball is known as one of the world "three ball". It is no longer a simple sport game and has developed into a culture carrier which contains Economic productivity, Political influence, Social affinity, and cultural diffusion. As a new culture, basketball culture has been focused by more and more scholar. Compared with soccer and volleyball, basketball can be described with "one game two rules". There’s no Brazil rule on soccer, no Russian rule on volleyball, but there is an NBA rule on basketball. During the long procedures of development, NBA and FIBA are two important aspects who influence each other, meantime they both has its own individual feature. This is called the Dual-Structure in Basketball Development by the author of this paper.This paper is focused on the changes over time in the NBA culture and FIBA culture, by the method of the literature, the method of logical analysis, the method of comparative analysis, and the method of interview to specialists. The results are:1)During the procedures of world basketball, dual-structure is really exists. NBA and FIBA stand for different direction between professional basketball and international basketball. They both are influenced by each other and keep one’s own individual feature.2)Before1990s, due to the different ultimate goals between NBA and FIBA, there existed culture shocks in their event operation, the system of competition, match rules and the technical and tactical of match, which lead to a pattern that is not only rejective but also influential.3)After1990s, in order to expand the international market, increase its influence over the world, NBA culture communicates with FIBA culture, by the way of NBA world tour and play the NBA regular reason in different countries. That promotes the integration of the Dual-Structure.4)By encouraging NBA players to take part in the Olympic games and the World Champions hold by FIBA, changing rules for basketball games, for the operation of the match and the way of competition, FIBA absorbs NBA’s merit and tries to build a surface plate between the Dual-Structure.
