Learning engagement is continuous learning state that learner pays attention to learning content and trys to make connections between old experiences and new issues. It includes behavioral engagement, emotional engagement, cognitive engagement. The students’learning engagement belongs to the field of positive psychology. It is essential for effective learning. The level and depth of engagement have a direct impact on students’ learning effect and teaching quality. Study on the learning engagement of the middle school students is significant to the enrichment of middle school pedagogy and enhancement of students’learning efficiency, expecially in the field of promoting students’positive learning psychology and learning attitude.This paper revises the questionnaire of middle school students’learning engagement by defining the concept of learning engagement. By means of questionnaire survey and interviews of students’ learning engagement in two middle schools in Fuzhou, the author analysizes quantitative and qualitative datas. It trys to investigate the situation of middle school students’ learning engagement and analysize the situation of behavioral engagement, emotional engagement and cognitive engagement. In the process of the investigation, the problems such as passive learning behavior, deficiency of emotional understanding, deviation of cognitive thought are found. The middle school students are influenced by the internal factors such as beliefs about learning importance, extrinsic motivation, intrinsic motivation, learning strategies and external factors such as teachers, peers and the learning atmosphere. So the engagement of their behavior, emotion and cognition is unstable. To aim at the problems and influence factors, it proposes instructional strategies to promote students’ learning engagement from three dimensionalities. And it enumerates teaching cases and instructional desigh cases to prove the strategies from behavioral engagement, emotional engagement and cognitive engagement.
