The Development Status And The Countermeasures Of Competitive Open Water Swimming

The startup of China’s competitive open water swimming is a little late, we have our own formal open water swimming team until2006, and attend the Melbourne World Swimming Championships in2007for the first time. In a few years, China has made a big progress in this field. But the research of competitive open water swimming in China is not that much. This article does the overall survey of China’s competitive open water swimming by methods of document-data, questionnaire, interviews with experts, logical analysis, comparatives and data-statistics. The article mainly talks about the history and current situation, importantly analyze the advantages, problems and developing countermeasures of our competitive open water swimming. On the basic of great amount of document reading, the author draw the conclusion through the questionnaire and the interviews with experts and couch of China’s open water swimming:1.The ability of our competitive open water swimming has a big progress in recent years, gradually shorten the gap with other countries of top level. Male team still has a long way to go while the female team has already has the ability for medals.2.The result shows that, the influencing factors of our competitive open water swimming are varies, including political and economic environment factors, social environment factors, managerial system factors, competitive system factors, rear-service insurance factors, couch factors, athlete factors and training factors. There are34small indexes of advantages, while34small factors of problem existed and28small factors of developing countermeasures.3.There are not many advantages of our competitive open water swimming, but five aspects are included, good mass foundation, support of national system, enthusiastic of holding matches in local area, sufficient reserve talents and high level of sports ability.4.Limited by every kinds of restrict, there are many problems of our competitive open water swimming, including, singleness of competitive form, few matches, lack of marketing, imperfect of management system, difficult of picking talents, lack of suitable training field, lack of experience, lack of motivation, lack of teaching experience for couches, and lack of research ability.5.The main developing countermeasures of our competitive open water swimming are:increase the number of matches, leaders pay more attention, higher marketing level, more sufficient management system, perfect reward system, increase communication of couches, construct training base, set up team event, enhance research efforts.6. Singleness of competitive form, few medals and few matches cause the lack of experience and motivation of our athletes. And these are the most important problems of our competitive open water swimming.
