Our country has been emphasizing the importance of education and the improvementof teachers’ quality. To attract more talented teacher to devote to the education cause, ourcountry had several reforms of teachers’ salary. In1StJanuary2009, with the approval ofour council, the reform of Chinese compulsory education teachers’ performance pay wasfirst carried out in compulsory education schools and aimed to make the average salary ofteachers as much as the civil servants’. According to this policy, senior middle schoolsbegan to control and distribute the performance pay at the same time. This means seniormiddle schools have the priority to adjust the distribution of performance pay according totheir requirements during the implementation of the policy. Now, all the senior middleschools in HA have carried out the policy, and almost every school has its own assessmentscheme. However, many senior middle school teachers are not satisfied with thedistribution of the performance pay, thinking their salary is still less than the civil servants’of their town. They also have the thoughts that their salary is much less than theadministrative staff’s so the performance pay hasn’t awarded those who has beenworking harder and those who has achieved more. Meanwhile, they also doubt that theydon’t get as much salary as the teachers in other schools so they are not content with thedistribution scheme.In order to solve the above problems, this essay first analyze the background ofperformance pay, the core concepts, the purpose and the meaning of the essay. Then, basedon modern salary theories, incentive theories and performance-action theories, this essaytries to compare the performance pay assessment scheme and the attitudes and suggestionsof the teachers in the three similar senior middle schools in HA through the way ofquestionnaire and interview. This essay also tries to study the factors which influence the development of teachers, such as the ways of assessment and the scheme of theperformance pay, the imbalance of performance pay distribution in the same area and so on.By means of these, this essay aims to arouse teachers’ working enthusiasm andimprove the quality of teachers with the improvement of performance pay.
