The implement of quality-oriented education, however, has not been attached enough importance to and most of the school still stresses the test-oriented education. As a result, some of the students turn into low achievers, who are often called students with LDs. Based on the investigation, the paper finds out that, in teaching practices, what mainly causes the students’LDs is not their intelligence, but nonintellectual factors. On these grounds, the author tries to adopt appreciation education in the teaching practice. On the premise of respecting each student’s personality and individual differences, appreciation education is such a kind of stimulant and positive education that emphasizes on finding out the shining points of every student and then inspires, encourages and guides them. Thus, it may transform students’nonintellectual factors effectively, such as interest, motivation, confidence and so on, and improve the English achievements of those with LDs.Where there is no appreciation, there is no education. In the process of transforming students with LDs with appreciation education, the author adopts both quantity and qualitative research methods. Firstly, a survey is carried out to analyze the reasons for the occurrence of low achievers in English.85low achievers from5classes are required to do the questionnaires. Afterwards, the strategies that applying appreciation education to transforming the low achievers in English are put forward. The strategies are then adopted in a teaching experiment, which is carried out in two classes the author was teaching. The number of students in each class totals45, of which one is set as experimental class and taught with appreciation education, the other as controlled class and taught with traditional teaching methods. After the one-term long experiment, the author analyzes the scores in the first and second terminal examinations of the34low achievers from two classes respectively and analyzes the questionnaires on the nonintellectual factors as well. Analyzed by SPSS17.0, the result of statistics data shows that based on appreciation education, the transformation to the students with LDs are proved practical and efficient in the non-intellectual factors, especially in interest and confidence, and their English examination performance has been improved, too. |
