This thesis focuses on the teaching methodology of high school essays from theperspective of aesthetics, and gives guidance on how to explore the “inner beauty” ofwriting. Consider the paradox between the theory and the teaching of writing:Theoretically, writing is the expression of the heart; whereas in reality, high school essayteaching and learning are both heavily geared towards serving grades. To solve thisproblem, the author references to the Theories of Play by Schiller, Philosophy of Spirit byCroce, and the idea of self-expression in the traditional Chinese aesthetics, and evaluateessay writing from both teachers and students. Based on that, the author builds a newstructure of essay teaching, develops a new curriculum, and creates experimental designs,with the ultimate goal of having aesthetics win over grades in high school essay teaching.
