With the advance of a new round of the basic education curriculum reform, whathas been most concerned by the society is the professional development of teachers. Theteachers’ professional development level not only is closely related to education qualitybut also decides the sustainable development of education. As teachers are the newforce of nurturing children, who are the futures of the motherland, their quality directlyaffects the prosperity and development of education.The form of having the heterogeneous classes is a kind of independent schoolactivity in teaching and research, aimed at improving all aspects of teachers qualities,including independence, cooperation and reflection abilities. It is an activity based ondaily class teaching and dealing with daily teaching problems of the teaching contents,in order for the improvement of teaching and teachers’ professional levels.The paper is based on the basic theory of teacher professional development, takesthe heterogeneous classes as a means of promoting teachers’ professional development,and examines the heterogeneous classes teaching from this point of view. It also tries tofind out how the heterogeneous class teaching and research develops the dimensions ofprofessional development of high school mathematics teachers through classroomobservation and interview. This paper selects four cases of teaching design, anddiscusses the professional development of high school mathematics teachers in sevenaspects. It is required that teachers have a new and more comprehensive understandingof the teaching career, change the ideas on students, the object of teachingimplementation, improve teachers knowledge in mathematics, strives for innovationand breakthrough in the implementation and the design of classroom teaching,strengthen the exchanges of ideas and cooperation between colleagues, and implementthe reflections.This heterogeneous class teaching, stemming from practice, will have a qualitativedistillation under the guidance of the basic theories of teacher professional development, so as to improve the teaching level of teachers, to better promote the development ofteachers, and finally to improve students’ ability in every aspect.
