At present, the development of the socialist modernization has brought new changes in people’s thought field, also puts forward new requirements to the ideological and moral education. How to do a good job of moral education in the new period has become a crucial problem to be solved. One important way is to absorb and learn from the successful experience of foreign moral education.As a main position of the task of moral education in colleges and universities is to cultivate the contemporary college students become "virtuous", which is of great significance to our modernization construction. In this paper, the moral education in China and the United States is put as a research object, and the development trend of moral education in universities of the two countries are compared. It’s useful to learn from the experience of moral education work in American colleges and universities, so as to put forward valuable ideas for the reform of moral education in colleges and universities in our country. This article discusses mainly from the following several parts:The first part introduces the purpose and significance of this topic firstly, which is the need to improve the current moral education work, and strengthen the reform of moral education in colleges and universities, and then analyzes the research status at home and abroad. The innovation points of this paper is to use the method of comparison and questionnaire, so as to draw lessons from successful experience of moral education in universities in the United States, and provide meaningful reference and enlightenment for the moral education work in our colleges and universities.The second part is discussion about the development trend of moral education in colleges and universities in the United States. It is expounded from four aspects: the multidisciplinary integration of moral education theories, the permeability of moral education contents, the diversification of moral education methods and the network of moral education environment.The third part introduces the status of moral education and the development trend in colleges and universities in our country. This part, using the method of questionnaire, investigates the status of moral education in colleges and universities in our country, to find the existing deficiency and aim at these deficiencies to explore the development trend of moral education in colleges and universities in our country.The fourth part analyeds the similarities and differences of the development trend of moral education in colleges and universities of China and the United States. Similarities are discussed from three aspects: all value the development needs of people, all value inheriting and carrying forward the national spirit, all value the hidden curriculum setting; Differences are did a detailed analysis from three aspects: theoretical basis, history and culture, policy guidance.The fifth part mainly introduces the enlightenment to our country for the development trend of moral education in Chinese and United States universities.From five aspects put forward opinions and suggestions to the construction of moral education in colleges and universities: First is to renew moral education ideas, follow the "people‐oriented" concept of people‐oriented moral education; Second is to enrich the contents of moral education, opening "two courses",at the same time, strengthening the integrity education, mental health education, and other learning contents, to help guide the formation and development of college students’ values; Third is to rich moral education methods to reform the single dogmatic moral education methods, and give full play to the subjectivity of the students, develop students’ creative thinking; Fourth is to optimize the moral education, strengthen the ideological and moral quality of moral education workers, to raise the level of knowledge and the teacher’s ethics construction and to give full play to the important role of moral educators in moral education; Five is to integrate the moral education environment, from the government, school, family, society and so on several aspects to strengthen the construction of moral education environment, and to provide a good environment for the students to learn moral education.
