According to the regulation of compulsory education English curriculum standards, The main task of English course in the basic education stage is to cultivate and stimulate students’ interests in learning English through improving students to master basic knowledge and skills of English in listening, speaking, reading and writing with the the purpose of cultivating the students’ comprehensive abilities in using English. However, through the investigation of some urban and rural primary schools of Hainan province, the researcher found that(1) the traditional teaching mode pay much attention to teaching knowledge rather than promoting students’ personality development consequently, which causes students to lose interest and confidence in learning English,(2) to have a less participation in and out of the class activities,(3)to enjoy less confidence and pleasure of English learning, etc.Based on the theory of multiple intelligence, the researcher analyzed the causes and effects of these problems, which were found that(1) students’ language intelligence was weak because of lacking required activities that led to the low class participation,(2) students’ confidence and pleasure in learning were insufficient because of lacking music, rhythm intelligent training,(3) students’ understanding of English subject was vague because of neglecting the self introspection intelligence training,(4) students’ language competence was poor because of insufficient training in Logical-mathematical intelligence. All these problems affect the students’ interest in learning English.With the purpose of improving the situations, the teacher should alter the models of classroom teaching by combining bodily-kinesthetic intelligence and Linguistic intelligence together to improve students’ classroom participation, by cultivating students’ musical-rhythmic intelligence to improve students’ English learning self-confidence pleasure, by cultivating students’ self introspection intelligence to improve students’ understanding of English subject, by strengthening and maintaining the cultivation of student’s interpersonal intelligence to improve students’ English practical skills, by training students’ logicalmathematical intelligence to enhance students’ ability to use English. All the new teaching ideas and models are expected to change the current situation in primary English teaching, and lay the solid foundation of life and autonomous study for students.
