Multimedia assisted foreign language teaching is the main trend of contemporary foreign language teaching. It has dramatically changed the foreign language teaching environment. As a new teaching experiment, multimedia assisted teaching to improve students’ oral English levels has attracted increasing attention. However, the application of multimedia in teaching does not last for a long time, it also needs certain types of techniques and teachers’ perception of the characteristics and advantages of multimedia are different from person to person. So, in order to find out the suitable methods to improve students’ oral English levels, it is necessary to find out the current situation of the application of multimedia in oral English teaching.If applying multimedia properly, it will adjust the classroom atmosphere and stimulate students’ learning enthusiasm. Based on the above understandings, the author chose Constructivism Theory, In-put and Out-put Theory and Context Theory as the theoretical basis, and through the analysis and results of the questionnaire to find out what’s the students’ attitude toward multimedia assisted oral English teaching and through the comparison of pre-test and post-test to investigate that are there chances that the application of multimedia in oral English teaching can improve students’ oral English levels.The experiment result indicates that the scores of post-test of the experimental group are higher than the control group. It shows that the reasonable use of multimedia in high school English teaching can stimulate students’ learning enthusiasm and lead to a better oral English learning effect.The thesis is composed of five chapters, Chapter One presents the background of the study; the purpose of the study and the significance of the study. Chapter Two presents the definition of the related concepts, the theoretical basis and the studies concerned abroad and at home. Chapter Three presents the approaches and specific details of the research operation. Chapter Four presents the data analysis and discussions of the research. Chapter Five presents the major findings, limitations and suggestions for further research.Based on the analysis of the research and the former scholars’ studies, the author come to the conclusion that applying multimedia in senior high school is helpful for students to have a deeper understanding of western culture, it is helpful for them to express their ideas actively and achieve a higher oral English level.
