Autonomous learning is a new way of learning that is based on the emergence of the idea of lifelong education, its appearance is pushed learning society. It is important for personal development, school education and social development. It gets a lot of attention in field of curriculum theory,teaching theory, and learning theory. So the cultivation of autonomous learning ability is a subject that had to be paid attention to.Firstly this thesis simply introduces the domestic and foreign autonomous learning related theories and regards autonomous learning ability of middle school students in the ideological and moral education as the main research direction. Basing the deep consideration on the characteristic of the discipline and development law of middle school students’ mind and body, i combine with the results of previous studies and summarize the elements of the autonomous learning ability of middle school students, including: learning consciousness of main part; to determine the learning objectives, learning content; the application of learning strategies and methods; the monitoring of learning process; the assessment of the learning outcomes and so on. So i make questionnaire for students, then go to some school in Aksu Prefecture to improve the questionnaire. I give 220 questionnaires to the students in some school in Aksu Prefecture and take back 200 questionnaires, the coefficient of utilization is 91 percent. Meanwhile, combining intensive interviews for teachers and students, I find the status of students’ autonomous learning ability as well as the problems in the practical teaching in Ideological and moral lesson, Those mainly have desalination of learning consciousness of main part; unreasonable learning goal set; do not know learning content; Unscientific learning methods and earning strategies; not high self-discipline and the lack of reasonable supervision. From the subject itself, the school, teachers and other aspects, i deep analyze the reasons for these problems,Through investigating current status of autonomous learning ability of the students and analyzing the reason of autonomous learning ability of the students, i get conclusions and suggestions. To change the current unreasonable teaching situation fundamentally, i think that need to make efforts in the following aspects: first, we should pay attention to autonomous learning ability of the students from the thought. Pay attention to subject characteristics, pay attention to students’ physical and mental development, pay attention to the related theory study, schools and teachers should guide the students to fundamentally change the attitude of learning; Second, we should turn ideas into action, popularize the theory of autonomous learning, "teaching how to fish", and strict management and supervision in order to realize the autonomous learning. Third, perfect in action. To improve the teaching and school related system. Fourth, rethink from the results. Through analyzing the achievements, thinking advantages and shortcoming of the teaching method, and combining with the local reality, we should make corresponding improvement.
