Under the guidance of the concept of "health first", PE options teaching (Hereinafter referred to as PEOT) is a teaching form with the sports and health curriculum standard as the theoretical foundation. According to students’ interests and talents, combining school’s field and equipment and teachers’ professional ability to set up this sports items. Using the teaching form, students can choose items that they are interested in, then schools run courses based on the selected sports items and complete teaching goals through PE teachers’ guide.Centered on students’ interests, PEOT concentrates on training students’ self-consciousness in participate in physical education and practical ability, emphasizes on students’ development in an all-around way. Their initiative of participation in sports activities is mobilized, their sports skills are improved and the awareness of taking exercise then forming a habit are developed in a scientific way. PEOT not only has improved quality and efficiency of teaching effectively but also played an important role in students’ all-round-way development and in solving the problem that the students are fond of physical education but are tired of PE courses.In the autumn of 2008, Henan Province began to reform on physical education curriculum in senior high schools. Taking Kaifeng High School as the example, PEOT has improved the quality and efficiency of teaching and promote the comprehensively development of students. Teaching and social effect have become a powerful evidence in PE curriculum reform of senior high school. In May,2011, Education Department of Henan Province decided to promote PEOT in the whole province.Founded in 1902, Kaifeng High School was one of the three large scale high schools pilot nationwide and national eight outstanding high schools, and now it is one of Henan first batch of model senior high schools. In 1983, PE teaching reform of Kaifeng High School was piloted from grade one. In 1984, on the basis of summarizing the practical teaching experience, the reform was promoted in three grades. The school is one of the earliest schools to practice PEOT such as single-sex classes and teaching based on different items. The school reformed for 31 years, during which, gathering abundant experience of reforms through long-time teaching practice, and achieving good teaching effect and social radiation effect.This thesis employs documentary method, investigation method, mathematical statistics and logical analysis to study the process of Kaifeng High School’s PEOT and teaching status. The paper can be viewed a phased information feedback of teaching reform effect in Kaifeng High School.Furthermore, give development suggestions on options teaching, at the same time, provide experience for other high schools to carrying out PEOT effectively and the widely demonstration of carrying out PEOT.Research findings:1. Teachers and students are in favor of PEOT, which obviously built up their bodies and kept their health, improved their professional skills and developed their personality and talents, fostered school’s PE activities after class, received the favor of school leaders and achieved good teaching effect and social radiation effect.2. In terms of course assessment and evaluation, this form assesses students in a full way and focuses on their participation and practical ability, promoting their development on body and mind.3. Comparatively complete sports facilities (the field and equipment) of Kaifeng High School meet teachers and students’need and lay a solid foundation to promote PEOT.4. To some extent, the number of PE teachers of Kaifeng High School reaches a certain level, but their gender and majors need to adjust.5. Only one item in three years leads to division of students’skills.6. On course management, it is unreasonable on theoretical course and technological course management.Development suggestions:1. Contents of courses should intrigue students and meet their interests and stress on exploiting and utilizing school-based resources.2. In setting courses of each class with only one item, schools should add other optional items.3. They should adjust structure of teachers, strengthen training on teachers’ further education and constructing of inter-disciplinary PE teachers.4. Schools should increase the investment in sports equipment, implement the requirement of the field equipment configuration contents set by the country for primary and secondary schools and improve the physical education teaching configuration.5. In order to promote PEOT, school leaders should pay high attention to PE teaching reform, support and complete reform to meet the need of PE teaching and development.
