This paper takes the four normal universities in northwest of China(Shaanxi Normal University, Northwest Normal University, Qinghai Normal University, Xinjiang Normal University) outstanding master’s degree thesis about principle of education major as the research object. Using content analysis method, literature method and statistical analysis method, inspecting all the degree thesis published from Cnki which come from among the four universities principle of education graduate students in 2008-2013. Finally, I select 225 effective samples as the research object. I took the methods of collecting data, analyzing data and displaying results for the point. Following the rules of people’s recognizing things to conduct investigation and study is: "what", namely the application of Principle of Education Master’s degree thesis from four universities in Northwest China during 6 years, and In order to understand the current situation. "Why", that is about the existing problems, the causes of the problems analysis is based on the coherence theory,which is from the two aspects macro and micro, and in order to explore the root causes of the problem. "How", for the problems, I put forward some suggestions about the research methods.The results of the study found that, the status of the application of research methods in writing the dissertation of master degree postgraduate principle of education in northwest area is:(1) The application of research approaches began to come to diversification, paying attention to draw and absorb research approaches from other subjects in order to research into and interpret the complex phenomenon of education.(2)It formed this research approach with methodology of data, interviewing, questionnaire, observation, qualitative analysis, descriptive statistics the dominant role. But at the same time, I found the principle of master degree thesis researchmethods four colleges of education research in Northwest also existing some problems:(1) The research method of levels of consciousness is shallow.(2)the application of research method is improper.(3) The majority research methods is qualitative and theoretical methods, quantitative research is less(4) The lack of validity research. In view of the current situation, I obtain some research methods improved enlightenment: first, strengthening method consciousness, strengthen the training method; second, improving the academic literacy, normative study method;third,promoting the diversification of research methods; fourth, enhancing the reliability and validity of the test of the thesis;fifth, giving financial support and social support.Through investigation and analysis principle of education graduate dissertation research methods of application in northwest area, can further understand and grasp the four colleges that education of principle majors study on the application of the method research’s present situation in Northwest. Try to study the professional quality of graduate student training principle of education in northwest area. Then provide some inspiration and reference to graduate students, mentor and school education management to study.
