With the cross and penetration between the subjects, biology as an important basic science has become one of the most rapidly developing subjects in the natural sciences during the 20th century, which aim at exploring the life phenomenon and revealing the rule of life activities. As a key link in biology, biological experiment is the basic method for exploring the life phenomenon and revealing the rule of life activities. Biological experiment has gradually become the important part in biology teaching with the highlight of cultivating students’ innovation ability and practice exploration ability by the curriculum reform in 2004. A growing group of scholars and educators have been concerning about this problem, and they also have done a number of investigations and researches on the implementation of biological experiment in biology teaching in middle school. However, the survey results are unsatisfied that many schools failed to conduct biology teaching with the application of biological experiment. There are two main reasons, one is that in subjective they don’t want to do experiments, another is that in objectively they have no conditions to do experiments. Even though some schools carried out experiments for students to meet the requirements of curriculum target, the effect is actually modest.In order to resolve the problems above, many scholars and educators have put forward to assist biological experiment teaching with the virtual technology such as multimedia, flash animation, virtual experiment and so on. And they have obtained certain achievement through their own practice. In recent years, the education sector has gradually begun to pay attention to virtual experiment, and it have been introduced into the teaching activities. Virtual experiment has shown enormous potential in the education sector. This paper reviewed and discussed issues related to the application of virtual experiment in biology experiment teaching in middle school in order to improve experiment teaching effect. In this paper, the author aimed at demonstrating the practical and feasible of assisting biological experiment teaching in middle school with the virtual experiment by means of analyzing its implementation and performance evaluation. The main results of this paper are as follows:Firstly, this paper analyzed the role of the biological experiment in teaching, and presented the current situation of biology experiment teaching as well as analyzing the reasons through literature. It also introduced the reasons of selecting the topic, and the content, methods, significance of this research.Secondly, this paper summarized the concept, classification, characteristic of the virtual experiment, and demonstrated the advantages compared to traditional experimental teaching. It also analyzed the status and results of the application of virtual experiment in teaching both in China and abroad, which provided a theoretical basis for the research about assisting biological experiment teaching in middle school with the virtual experiment.Thirdly, this paper did analysis and research on the principle and theoretical basis of virtual experiment design, which provided a theoretical direction for the virtual experimental teaching design.Fourthly, this paper analyzed the current situation of the biological experiment teaching in a middle school, which the author practiced in, as well as analyzed the reasons through questionnaire investigation and interview method. The survey results of show that, the deficiency of the experimental teaching conditions, the limiting of the biological teaching time and the deviation on cognition about function and position of the biological experiment are the main reason of affecting biological experiment. Meanwhile, this paper also analyzed the status of application of the multimedia teaching resources and the understanding of the virtual experiment by the teachers, which show that the teachers hold a positive attitude to the multimedia teaching resources and assisting biological experiment teaching with the virtual experiments in the middle school.Finally, the author designed a teaching cases of virtual experiment about cell mitosis in plant root tip meristematic zones in this paper. And compared the experimental teaching of different teaching processes(that is principle explanation+virtual experiment+ realistic experiment, principle explanation+experiment demonstration+practice exercises, principle explanation+realistic experiment+practice exercises) through three classes of senior student of grade 1 from the middle school which the author practiced in, and then evaluated the teaching effect of the different teaching processes through the test and the questionnaire survey after the experimental teaching. The results show that the application of virtual experiment in biology experiment teaching in middle school not only can promote students’understanding of knowledge and mastery of the experimental operation skills, but also improving the effect of the experimental teaching and stimulating students’enthusiasm of self-exploration.
