Language textbook is a continuum of the three value of ideological and emotional education, dissemination of knowledge and skills training. Since language teaching "is to give student ability by textbooks", teaching materials will naturally assume the important task of developing capacity. Compare with general secondary schools, secondary vocational schools focus more on the actual ability. Unfortunately, the language teaching materials used on vocational classroom still have not changed much for nearly a decade. They still cannot escape from both the form and content even if slightly revised. Besides, many Presses, big or small, have published a variety of reference materials, test volume and so on. Although these materials enrich the textbook, but they also increase the difficulties for teachers’teaching. Because the students are unable to agree or decide which is right for those inconsistent answers and views which resulted in the negligence of editors. The textbook occupies an important position in the teaching process, which also affects the quality of language education. Compare with high school students, good compiling of language teaching materials for secondary vocational school students are more based on students’characteristics. For the study of the three sets of language teaching materials published by Jiangsu Education Press of these 10 years (2001-2011), the author made the longitudinal study, in particular, analyzed the new version of textbooks edited by Yang Jiujun in 2011, pointed out the progresses and problems in the writing of textbooks through the research and longitudinal comparison. Simultaneously, the author made a horizontal comparison of language teaching materials with other publishers in order to learn from the distinguishing feature of others. And finally recommended amendments for textbooks contacted with the characteristics of teaching materials abroad.
