The "exam board of child painting" of China was born in 1998(some said in 1995).It has a history of nearly 20 years, and the growing scale aroused debate of people from all walks. The pros and opponents argue with each other until now, while students and their parents was at a loss what to do.This research tries to seek the essence of the exam, and make clear of the relationship between the exam and art education. This paper use the interview method, historical research method, literature and other research methods to make certain the origin and development of the exam. It is based on the time background, main aesthetic theories, and the development situation of children fine arts education in China. Meanwhile, to fine out the influence on contemporary children fine arts education in China of the exam, is also an important content of this assay. Finally, it come to the conclusion that "if the exam board of child painting should advocate".This paper is divided into four parts to study:first, with historical data editing, analysis is given priority to, the complex development of the exam would be present; second, through the investigation of organizers and participants, the assay can reveal the real face of today’s "exam"; thirdly, deep discrimination of the exam depend on main aesthetic theories would be given; the fourth part discusses the evils of "exam" itself, further from the fine arts education essence, the height of the civic culture and quality education. The judgment of the reference exam would come out ultimately.
