The preschool children’s family spontaneous painting activity refers to the painting activity of preschool children aged from three to six to draw within the family by freely employing drawing tools and adopting various art forms, including colors, lines, etc. The painting subject in the activity is constructed by children themselves, without any apparent external purposes and under no influence of parental concepts or styles of education. The activity occurs autonomously and freely, characteristic by freedom of painting, divergence of speech act, and diversity of painting outcomes. Family is the first place for children’s education, and graffiti behaviors occur firstly in the home range. In the process, children’s spontaneous painting activity is always accompanied by the formation of children’s language story. Behind each spontaneous activity there is a hands-on experience of children. Through talking with their parents about what they paint and how they paint, children develop their language competence, and parent-child relationship is also improved. Meanwhile, the spontaneous painting activity can inspire children’s imagination and develop their intelligence, thus having great significance for children development. However, till now, people haven’t attached due importance to this kind of activity. On one hand, parents have some misunderstandings of it; On the other hand, the family may treat children behavior in an improper way. Concerning how to improve the situation, the current research holds two views. Firstly, parents need to treat children’s spontaneous painting activity objectively, respect their “self-expression”, follow the law of their growth, make good use of their sensitive period, learn to “listen to” their heart, instruct them not only draw images, evaluate their work properly, and cherish fruits of their labor. Secondly, to well guide children’s spontaneous painting activity, parents may need to set a free and relaxed atmosphere at home, adjust their role in the family, improve their own artic quality, create good conditions for drawing, enrich children’s life experience, and increase their perceptive ability of the world. The paper focuses on spontaneous painting of preschool children of different ages within the family. Through the analysis of children’s painting content, language used and behaviors throughout the painting process, as well as parents’ attention to children behavior, way of evaluation, treatment of children’s work, etc., the paper points out some problems in the current family fine arts education and offers several practical suggestions for parents to treat their children’s spontaneous painting appropriately.
