Because of the equivocality of literary works and the ambiguity of their themes,combined with people’s different life experiences,knowledge accumulation,psychological cognition and comprehension abilities,they tend to have various interpretations of the same texts. However, in the instruction of modern prose in high school,some teachers and students are still accustomed to following the monistic interpretation presented in the reference books, or to falling to blind understanding,even casting aside the texts and authors,so far as to distort the textual meaning. Therefore, I dedicated this article to explore the counter-measures from a multiple interpretation point of view by analyzing the current situation in the reading instruction of modern prose in high school.In order to investigate the current situation of modern prose reading instruction in high school under the perspective of multiple interpretations, I looked up a large quantity of relevant documents and selected the subjects of my investigation from X High School, Yuzhong County of Lanzhou City, and I collected data and materials through methods such as questionnaires, interviews and observations. By analyzing the current situation and issues of modern prose reading instruction in X high school under multi-perspectives, this article attempts to present some solutions and suggestions in the hope of providing a salutary reference for high school teachers.Through my survey and analysis, I have discovered that, on the part of the students,the major problems existing are: the indistinct understanding of literary forms, the blind construction of new meaning for literary works, the tendency to stuck to standard answers, and the lack of individual comprehension. And the problems on the part of the teachers are: low awareness of literary forms, indiscrimination in teaching, ignorance of individual understanding by students and timely guidance in multi-perspective thinking,more in conformity with the reference books and less multi-perspective interpretations,and incorrect judgments which lead students’ individual interpretation astray.In response to the problems listed above, my suggestions for the students are as follows:to enhance the practice in modern prose reading, to cultivate the students’ learning interests, to think from more than one point of view and to venture to express different ideas. And suggestions for the teachers are: to select a variety of teachingmethods of teaching according to textual features; to focus on study environment and stress students’ individual interpretation; to translate the texts in multiple ways and to a certain degree; to adjust and control the classroom and lead the students to multi-perspective thinking; to judge correctly and inspire students for creative modern prose reading.
