Chengde Fengning Manchu "Back May" Research

The "brother back" of FengNing Manchu is a folk sports performance which is ancient, elegant and attractive. The "back brother" is also known as "butterfly dance". It originated from "Qi Genggeng"——a kind of game which is played by eunuchs to amuse princes in Qing’s palace. It only can be found in FengNing area. It has been passed down more than three hundred years. It has become one of the most representative cultural performances in FengNing area now.The "back brother" of FengNing has its unique cultural value and the practical value. It has received many awards in various competitions within the nationwide. The inheritance and development of the "back brother" are facing many problems, such as the lack of training and performers, deficiency of funding for activities and so on. Therefore, study on the "back brother" of FengNing is extremely urgent both from the perspective of inheritance and the perspective of protection.This article uses the eight rooms "back brother" of FengNing area as the research object, combining literature method, and fieldwork method and logic analysis to study the origin, sports value, inheritance and protection of the "back brother". This article draws the following conclusions:First, the "brother back" of FengNing Manchu is an ancient folk sport performance which is also a new thing for many young people. Second, this project needs to enlarge propaganda work. Third, there is a deficiency of funding for activities. Fourth, there is not enough time and specialized actors when perform it. This article also tries to put forward some suggestions:Firstly, set up specialized research institutions. Secondly, strengthen publicity to attract more actors. Thirdly, broaden the source of funds to promote its development. Finally, combine it with tourism to improve the inheritance of the "back brother".
