A Comparative Analysis On Language Function Layout Of The Chinese Textbooks Used Extensively In Indonesian High Schools

Compiling Chinese textbooks according to language functions arrangement has been widely known in Chinese teaching circles. However, which language functions should be selected or how is the proper order of appearance these language functions should be appeared on textbook, there is no conclusion so far. This research paper mainly focuses on three sets of Chinese textbook which are commonly used in Indonesian high schools, namely "Huayu Bahasa Tionghoa", "Hanyu Jiaocheng" and "Gaoji Hanyu Bahasa Mandarin untuk SMA". The scope of this paper is limited to the text portion of every lesson in each textbook, and the identification of its language function will be based on The Language Function Form on The Chinese Syllabus for Foreign Student in Institution of Higher Learning and the definition in Chinese as Foreign Language in Primary Stage of Functional Syllabus. The paper conducts analysis in the arrangement of the language functions that appears on Chinese textbooks which are commonly used in Indonesian high schools. In addition to that, comparative analysis in the distribution of the total proportion, percentage, frequency and appearance order of the language function that appear on each textbook was also done. In the purpose of understanding overall situation of language function selection and arrangement on Chinese textbooks which are commonly used in Indonesian high school, the paper also points out the deficiency of language function selection and compilation appear on the Indonesian high school’s Chinese textbooks. According to the research result of this paper, the researcher also put some suggestions to language function compiling for Chinese textbooks commonly used in Indonesian high school.
