Classical Chinese, which has long been a critical part of Chinese education in high school, is something that teachers and students often attain little results even if they invest plenty of time and energy in. The poor Classical Chinese education emanates from an unavoidably monotonous, wooden, low-efficient teaching propensity that is still commonly seen nowadays, i.e.teachers focus more on their teaching instead of students’ learning. Hence, a possible way to turn around Classical Chinese education in high school is leave no stone unturned to revolutionize teachers’ teaching philosophy and methodology and explore a new way of teaching that would pay sufficient attention to students’ learning.We need to shift our attention from "how teachers teach" to "how students learn", from "teacher’s splendid teaching" to " student’s successful learning". We propose "Less Teaching More Learning", by which we do not mean to deny the importance of "teaching". What we advocate is better teaching, i.e. put quality before quantity which is a higher and stricter demand that requires teachers to refine their teaching with many more efforts and wisdoms. "Less Teaching" emphasizes the conciseness and refinement of teaching, while "More Learning" stresses viewpoint, eyesight and the breadth and depth of vision. In order to achieve "Less Teaching More Learning" there are mainly four strategies:1. stimulate students’interest with copious proper teaching resources; 2. spend more efforts helping students learn how to learn; 3. think hard to artistically create a platform for students to learn proactively, and to learn how to study a topic and how to work with others as a team; 4. combine several effective teaching methods together.This paper, on basis of the theory and practice of "Less Teaching More Learning", tries to apply this teaching methodology to Classical Chinese education for the purpose of revitalizing Classical Chinese education. This paper also tries to test the teaching methodology in practice, so as to discover the best way to use the methodology in Classical Chinese teaching in high school and accumulate as much experience as possible, thus enriching the practice of this methodology and making it more workable.
