The Notice, formulated by Ministry of Education and State committee of language, on the pilot work of Chinese Classics Reading carried out in schools at all levels, has unfolded a vigorous mass campaign for classics reading throughout China. Class as reading has been playing a positive role in students growing as illustrated in the notice. However, the overstress in content on Guoxue and ancient poems, the decreasing time spent on it from elementary schools to high schools, and the neglect of curriculum construction in methodology and strategy have restrained its expected functions. This paper focuses on the meaning and its demerits of current classics reading program and concludes that it should be specially emphasized during high school duration. Besides, a case study on Quanzhou No.7 middle school discusses the practice of integrating classics reading into school curriculum, combined with school-based curriculum, producing new conceptualization. It also summarizes the practical, characteristic and exemplary operation in school-based classics reading curriculum development and practice and further reveals its positive influence on curriculum construction, campus culture, Chinese teaching, students’ growing and faculty development.
