Due to the changes in environment and shifts in roles, many university freshmen will encounter problems in adapting to university life while handling adaptability problems in study, inter-personal relations and living environment and mental shocks, etc. They find it especially hard to adapt to university life when it comes to university study because of the changes in learning contents, methods and teaching models. In order to solve these problems, the author carries out case work intervention study on learning adaptability of university freshmen and help freshmen to adapt to university study using social work methods, so that they could enhance their ability in adapting to university study, which could help in laying a solid foundation for future study and life.Guided by the strengths perspective theory, the author carries out case study of a freshman from X University who runs into problems in adapting to university study, using literatures and interviews in further research. This paper offers detailed description of the ways in which university freshmen feel difficult to adapt to university study, and analyzes the reasons for the difficulty from the perspective of person, family and the university. The author does this in the hope of attracting the attention of university freshmen, families and universities. then the author carries out case work interventions so as to help university freshmen adapt to university study. After the research, the paper comes to a conclusion: university freshmen are encountered with severe problems in adapting to university studies. In the past, solutions to this problem were focused on macro-strategies instead of targeted professional service. The author finds that case work method was proved efficient in addressing adaptability problems. In addition, addressing freshmen’s learning adaptability problems requires efforts of families, universities, access to other favorable social resources and enhanced school training of professional talents in the field of social work.
