Curriculum reform of Basic English education emphasizes to develop students’ comprehensive language ability from the perspective of learning interest, life experience and cognitive level. The implementation of educational reform shall begin from classroom teaching, and classroom interaction is an important part for the study of English classroom teaching. With the development of education and teaching research, the study theory of classroom mode changes from “Classroom Control” to “Classroom Interaction”. Classroom interaction is the mutual impact between teacher and students when they exchange their ideas under classroom environment, so that something changes in thinking, emotion and psychology. It motivates all the elements involved in the process of classroom teaching, which is centered on the realization of education and teaching goals, so as to develop a positive interaction between teacher and students. However, there still exist some problems about classroom interaction in middle school English classes. The traditional teacher-centered or textbook-centered teaching mode is still influencing the classroom teaching imperceptibly, which results in the unti-highlighting of students’ primary status, and also affects the availability of classroom interaction. This thesis researches and studies the current situation of classroom interaction in middle school English classes, and aims to answer the below questions:·How does classroom interaction affect the classroom teaching?·What factors can affect the classroom interaction?·What implications does the research of classroom interaction bring to English teaching in middle school?Both qualitative research and quantitative research are applied in this thesis. The previous literatures from both home and abroad are used for reference. Students and teachers from Lai Zhou No.1 Senior Middle School act as the subjects of this research, who provide the research data by the way of classroom observations, questionnaires and interviews. This research is designed to further analyze the internal and external factors that affect classroom interaction in middle school English classes.The research findings show that classroom interaction can motivate students’ enthusiasm of participation and improve the efficiency of classroom teaching effectively, at the same time, it is a good chance to increase students’ effective language input and practice their language skills. The inner factors in both teacher and students, as well as the outside factors including teaching content, education system and class size all have impacts on classroom interaction. The research findings should be useful for the development of classroom interaction and the improvement of English teaching in middle school.
