Nowadays, science and technology, economy and society in China have developed so fast, which on the one hand has exerted a profound influence on the division of disciplines so that more and more disciplines begin to interact, and large amounts of new-rising subjects rise in response to the proper time and conditions. On the other hand, a variety of economic and social problems have become more complicated, which requests people seek the solution with a multidisciplinary horizon, and that more versatile and innovative talents should be cultivated. As the main way to foster high-level talents, graduate education in China should shoulder the responsibility of cultivating high-level and interdisciplinary talents. Especially, education of Master of Science is an important part of post-graduate education, and as the training scale of Master of Science students and social demand for talents continuously extend, there are some core problems which need to be solved quickly in the education of Master of Science including deepening the interdisciplinary education of Master of Science reform, improving the interdisciplinary education quality of Master of Science students and cultivating much more high-level technical talents with multi-disciplinary background, innovation ability and comprehensive quality.This paper took interdisciplinary training mode of Master of Science as research objects. According to the theories of interdisciplinary education, system science and higher education, the paper probed into the elements of interdisciplinary graduate training mode and its predominant features. Based on the mode, the paper analyzed and discussed the current issues existing in the interdisciplinary training modes of Master of Science in China by conducting a survey into the interdisciplinary cultivation of Master of Science in Chinese universities. Besides, taking a part of American representative universities as examples, the paper tried to study their interdisciplinary training modes of Master of Science and induced their characteristics. Finally, synthesizing all of theoretic and practical research results, the paper proposed some suggestions to perfect the interdisciplinary education of Master of Science in China.The results show that the graduate interdisciplinary education is such a new talent training form based on interdisciplinary educational concept with cultivation factors of different source and composition. The graduate interdisciplinary training mode is composed of the interdisciplinary supportive elements which provide interdisciplinary support for the graduate education, and the graduate cultivating elements which form the main part of the graduate interdisciplinary education. The experiences of the distinctive interdisciplinary education of Master of Science in American universities can furnish great lessons of concept, organization, institution and cultivation to the further promotion of the interdisciplinary education of Master of Science in China. The research findings of this paper could be used to guide and promote the development of other kinds of graduate interdisciplinary education, contributing to fostering more high-level versatile talents needed by the society.
