In the new round of curriculum reform of quality education, improving students’ science literacy has become the key to implementation of quality education. At the same time, improving the professional accomplishment of all teachers is crucial to the smooth implementation of quality education. The author takes the middle school mathematics teachers in Yan’an as the research object. In this article, the mathematical literacy status and existing problems were also analyzed by using SPSS software.This study adopts the method of literature, questionnaire survey method, class method, statistical analysis method. The conclusions are as follows:(1) The connotation of mathematical literacy and its constituent elements.Mathematical literacy is a combination of mathematical ability, mathematical thought and method,and the mathematical spirit shown in a real situation after the subject have been through the study of mathematical facts,concepts,skills,principles and mathematical thought. Mathematical literacy consists mainly of mathematical essence, mathematical thinking method mathematical knowledge, mathematical history, mathematical aesthetics.(2) The present mathematical literacy of mathematical teachers in middle school.The school ignores mathematical literacy completely and the importance of teaching cannot be overemphasized. There is a series of problems through lack of understanding of teaching materials, such as machinery to the teaching goal, false agent, scripted teaching. There is no enough higher mathematics knowledge to understand mathematics essence. There is not enough comprehensive knowledge such as the humanities and social science, unable to show the charm of mathematics in proper ways.(3) The strategy of upgrading the middle school mathematics teachers’ mathematical literacy.Improving teachers’ mathematical literacy should be considered from three stages of the development. Normal university: optimize the curriculum and pay attention to humanities and social science courses; the local education unit: provide on-the-job training for new teachers; Employment school: encourage scientific research, support for further study, interdisciplinary classes, equipped with modern teaching equipment and used for training.
