As a major cultural foundation course in secondary vocational school, vocational mathematics curriculum has strong basis function, that is tool function and utility function. It is not only the foundation to participate in social production and handle the daily life, but also to learn other courses and improve learning. Mathematics teaching in secondary vocational school should focus on serving professional courses and conforming the career development with combination with professional courses. To change the current situation of the teaching of mathematics in secondary vocational schools fundamentally, adapt to the need of vocational education development, mathematics teachers should change the present model of teaching with consideration of students’ professional learning requirements and their receptivity.There are many problems in secondary vocational mathematics teaching, as following: a serious gap between the mathematics teaching and professional courses, the needs of the enterprises, lack of interest in student learning; various disadvantages in mathematics teaching material reform; imitation of general education mode, neglect of theoretical teaching, simple content, random cut of the teaching content, casual combination of modules, ignorance of training students’ mathematics application ability,outdated teaching method; single teaching evaluation system.By investigating and analyzing the reform of mathematics teaching conditions Shunde Zhengjingyi secondary vocational school(Foshan District, Guangdong province)and combining this with its experiences and teaching lessons, the author explores and finds the basic model of how the secondary vocational school mathematics teaching serves for the professional courses, whose purpose is to fully understand the needs of students, schools and enterprises, to make sure that math really becomes a foundation course while students learn professional courses. The author argues that the methods of mathematics teaching and ways of teaching evaluation should reformed and innovated, so as to meet students’ needs and adapt to current math teaching condition.Based on the literature research, this paper integrates investigation with interview and other empirical methods to analyze and demonstrate that mathematics teaching serving the professional courses is a worthy research topic in today’s society.
