Along with the growth in social progress, economic level and living standard, aging tendency population, the change of spectrum disease, medical model and healthy concept, the nursing conception has been changed gradually from disease-centered into individual heath care, the object of nursing has also been expanded from merely patients then to sub health group and heath group, at the same time, work place from purely hospital to family and community. In that case, new requirements for higher vocational nursing specialty education, training nursing staff adapt to different nursing jobs with strong professional comprehensive abilities, are being proposed. Hence school-based curriculum development becomes the focus of nursing education curriculum reform.Combining theoretical research with empirical study, a sequence of questionnaire surveys for research on community care essential professional abilities have been conducted in Qiandongnan prefecture of Guizhou province, teaching faculty and students of Qiandongnan National Polytechnic have being carried on survey for school-based curriculum development status. The paper discusses the problems found out and offers solutions.The research is divided into five parts:Part one:Introduction. In this part, it tells the background, significance and research status of literature review at home and abroad, thoughts and approaches, related concept definition. Part two:it analyzes the status and data collected from three questionnaires surveys for the research of higher vocational nursing specialty school-based curriculum development. Part three:Based on data analysis results, five problems are found out existing in the school-based curriculum development of higher vocational nursing specialty. Part four:According to the professional abilities analysis based on the basic procedures of competence-oriented curriculum development and higher vocational nursing specialty community nursing, it presents the professional abilities essential to community nursing. Part five:in this part, as to the problems existing in school-based curriculum development of higher vocational nursing specialty, it proposes the strategies of competence-oriented curriculum development.The most important result of this paper is to find out strategies for completing school-based curriculum development of higher vocational nursing specialty, which provides teachers in higher vocational school the method for reference, equips the students of nursing profession with comprehensive professional abilities, thus being competent for different nursing jobs and better adapt to our society and serve for it.
