With deep implementation of curriculum reform, today’s primary Chinese teaching focuses more on the development of students’ ability to use the Chinese language. As a bridge between reading and writing, in-class small writing exercise helps students improve their ability to use the Chinese language. Therefore, this method is widely carried out in the practice of Chinese teaching in class.Taking narrative works as an example, this paper gives an in-depth analysis regarding how to design, implement and evaluate the small writing exercise during classroom teaching.This paper analyzes the status quo on in-class small writing exercise in both China and abroad, and gives a feasibility analysis according to the related theories. In conjunction with teaching cases, this paper expounds on how to design in-class small writing exercise effectively in three aspects including design basis, design requirements and design form. Facing the incorrect practice in small writing exercise, this paper sets forth the selection of teaching resources, major operating points and teaching approach in respect of small writing exercise. In addition, this paper defines the role, indexes, subject and mode of evaluation of small writing exercise, and reflects upon the essential points of evaluation of small writing exercise. This paper is intended to arouse students’ interest in studying Chinese, improve the quality of in-class Chinese teaching, and increase students’ accomplishments in Chinese.
