Nowadays, more and more people in the world are learning Chinese. For teaching adults, there are lots of good teachers, different kinds of books and effective teaching strategies. But for teaching foreign children, there are still many aspects need to be improved. Elementary school students’learning habits and psychological characteristics are different from middle school and high school students, they are still growing up, have a lot of imagination, strong curiosity and amazing ability to imitate. According to these features of primary school students, choosing what kind of teaching method, using what kind of teaching material, has a great impact on the quality of teaching Chinese as a foreign language.I had interned at the University of Kansas in the United States of America for a year, mainly engaged in teaching elementary students from kindergarten to fourth grade. The Confucius institute at University of Kansas uses video conferencing teaching, which increased difficulty for the teachers. How to teach Chinese well in video conferencing teaching is a challenge for me. In high school Chinese teaching, we use reverse design method. In primary school Chinese teaching, we mainly adopt the storytelling teaching method. After a year of primary school teaching, I found that the storytelling teaching method was welcomed by the elementary school students. Other teachers also think it is suitable for primary school teaching and an effective teaching method. Storytelling teaching method has many advantages, but there are some problems. I found these problems from daily teaching work. I mainly got ideas through observing the students’in class and interviewing the students after class.Firstly, analyzing the difference between distance video conferencing teaching and face-to-face teaching, as distance video conferencing teaching is a new way of teaching. In order to realize teaching resources maximization, more and more countries and regions are using distance video conferencing teaching. Distance video conferencing teaching and face-to-face teaching are differed mainly in the way of teaching, the way of communication between teachers and students, the decorations in classroom and so on. Then is the focus of this paper, discussing distance video conferencing teaching under the Storytelling teaching method. Mainly discussing the storytelling teaching method, the advantages of storytelling, whether storytelling teaching method met the United States "5 C" standards of foreign language teaching. And analyzing the teaching plans and students’ learning effect, finding the problems existing in the storytelling teaching method. Finally, putting forward teaching suggestions according to the evaluation of storytelling teaching method, to offer reference to the United States and other countries and regions of the world in primary schools on teaching Chinese.
