Rural compulsory education, as an important part of basic education, has its specific characteristics. There are some lacks of balance in our compulsory education, such as the coastal areas and the inland areas, the economic develops areas and the poor areas, the cities and the countryside, especially serious in rural areas. Through investigation of the compulsory education in Lianshui, a county located in the North of Jiangsu province, this dissertation discusses the problems, quarries out the common phenomena in countryside, elicits the solutions, and offers the policy suggestions.With the rapid development of the rural economic diversification, rural education has also been developed in varying degrees. At present in the rural area of our country, the transformation of society, the visibility of the issues concerning agriculture, countryside and farmers, the quality of the rural compulsory education has become one of the most important factors to impact on enhancing the comprehensive national strength, balancing the development between urban and rural, influencing the harmony, alleviating the contradictions in society. It must be drawn a great attention. Based on the analysis of a huge mass of data collected from the rural compulsory education, and review and prospect of the rural compulsory education of our country under the compulsory education background at home and abroad, this thesis has stated the problems existed at the macro level currently. On the one hand, the compulsory education has not provided the same equality opportunities for the school-age children and adolescents at rural area as those ones in cities; no more satisfactory to the rural children to receive a good, high quality education. At present, the phenomena of children in countryside out of school and the dropout remains very serious. What is more, for the development of economy, more and more migrant workers from rural, the compulsory education for their children will be a new focused problem. On the other hand, the problems of seriously short of school funds for the rural compulsory education; relatively insufficient quantity of teachers, lacks for teachers’ training, teachers’lowing quality, unreasonable and demoralized construction of teachers, unavailable conditions for running schools, unbalanced allocation of resources compared with the cities, all and all of those make the rural compulsory education into trouble.As the angle of view on the current situation of compulsory education in Lianshui, this thesis attributively analyses the problems in China’s rural compulsory education; initially establishes a model of system for school running and rural compulsory education; deduces the main reasons that cause the rural compulsory education into predicament, and points out that caused by the governments’responsibilities not clear and omission, administering education according to law behavior not implemented, the education system not standardized, in the final analysis, the problems touch off the confrontation and contradiction as a result of urban-rural dualistic structure. On account of the research, this thesis proposes related countermeasures and suggestions.
