With the development of economy and society in China, many social problems are becoming increasingly prominent, which requires a lot of professional social workers to use professional skills to solve the problems. Social work is an emerging major in China, it’s gradually accepted by the public with the supports of the government and the struggle of social workers.However, the level of the social economic development is unbalanced, as a result, the level of the social work’s development is different. The south areas is better than the north. Though the development of the social work in Hebei province have gain some achievements, it still exists some problems. Social work is accepted as an unpopular major among people. A lot of graduates have not been working in the professional post of social work, so many professional people run away from the area of social work. It is not only a waste of educational resources, but a kind of barrier on the way of the development of social work.According to the literature, the previous studies of graduates who majors in the social work focused more on the south provinces. There are only five pieces studies about Hebei province. Obviously, the level in south areas can not take pace of it in Hebei province. What’s more, the related studies just show us some date about the social work’s conditions, there is almost no study related on the specific thoughts of the graduates majored on social work. So it’s become very important for us to know their choices of work through in-depth interviews.To collect data, this thesis uses literature analysis and in-depth interviews. Some students graduating from Hebei province majoring in social work are interviewed. This thesis explores the situation of their job-choosing behaviors and analyzes the influence factors of their careers, then these factors are united in the social identity theories and rational choice theories. Finally, in the combination with the related data, the conclusion is conducted:(1) The number of social work graduates in Hebei province is growing year by year, but most of them choose to run away from the area of professional social work. (2) The influence factors are as follows:social service organization; the welfare treatment; family and college education. (3) When the graduates make the choice of their career, they will rationally consider the social identity of social work to make their benefits best.In summary, the author give some advice on three different aspects (working environment; college education and graduates) to improve the level of social identity, change the situation of the drain of talents, make more focus on the group majoring in social work and give them more understanding and identity.
