First grade is an important transition between young and first-graders.The focus on their life is moving from free game-oriented to the formal learning-based activities. First grade teacher is their guider and mentor who helps these students adapt to their systematic school life and develop their favorable study habits and moral qualities. The first grade teacher competency level hence determines whether they can accomplish their task of guiding students smoothly and efficiently and undertake their duty and responsibilities.Based on the relevant literature review, I conclude four common dimensions of primary teacher competency model, namely educational ability, psychological features, interpersonal communication and achievable motivation. By combining the teaching practice and interviewing teachers, students, school administrators and parents, some relevant information can be obtained. It can be found that the factors which influence first grade teachers’ constituting competency are multi-factored. Four principal factors constituting the first grade teacher competency is teachers’ own profession, students’ physical and psychological features, school management and family education. To be specific, The comprehensiveness of first grade teacher’s knowledge,emotional self-regulation ability, interpersonal interaction methods and techniques and the level of personal motivation will altogether affectfirst-year teacher competency constitution, apart from this, individuality and school management style, coupled with parents’ support and cooperation also play a part in affecting first grade teacher competency elements.One of the targets of this essay is to optimize the first grade teacher competency elements for improving their level of competency. Hence,some suggestions and strategies are proposed at the last of this essay:enhance the professionalism of the teacher’s themselves, strengthen the training and management to school’s first grade teacher and maintain cooperation between home and school education. |
