There exists such a phenomenon in the employment market that graduates could not hunt jobs while employers find it hard to recruit. The causes are complicated, the key of which is the structural contradictions between graduate supply and social demand. And the problem of major is the bottleneck that impacts and constrains employment on a long-term basis. Thus this article focus on the professional structural contradictions in the graduate employment, gives definitions to relative principles, and dissects the issue by the Theory of Demand and Supply in advanced education. Through literature research and statistical analysis, the article analyses the phenomena, reasons and countermeasures. The research is significant in optimizing resource allocation of graduate education, increasing efficiency of human resource and promoting employment.In this paper we study the imbalanced supply and demand of graduates from data collected from eleven branches, primary subjects and second subjects in the past five years and objectively demonstrate the professional structural contradictions in which demands exceeds or falls short of supply in different subjects. In conclusion, professional structural contradiction is a long lasting problem. Certain subjects see long term shortage in supply, while graduates of some other subjects suffer from low employment rate. Many of the subjects that used to be popular are now seeing diminishing demand, while some other subjects, albeit having large number of graduates, still cannot satisfy the demand of job market. Undersupplied subjects are mainly composed of applied subjects and science, while oversupplied subjects are mainly composed of fundamental subjects and arts.This article analyze the main contributing factors to the professional structural contradictions from four major participants: deficiency of universities in independent management and self-discipline mechanism, incomplete macro-control mechanism of the government for allocating human resource, irrational use of the concept and mechanism of personnel recruitment,and the students’ irrational choice on major and job selection.From analyzing the four factors mentioned above, this article propose several solutions to coordinate the professional structural contradictions of graduate employment: fostering universities mechanism of independent management and self-discipline and positively adapt education to the market demands, emphasis on composite and practical education; improving government’s macro control on human resource allocation, giving universities further autonomy on major setting and recruitment,reforming the funding system for post-graduate education,establishing a professional supply and demand information exchange mechanism;making rational and diverse major and job selection by guiding students to choose major carefully and change the traditional concept of employment.
