During the economic system transition, a series of economic problems have arisen, including the obvious problems on college graduate employment. At present, a growing number of young people go to the college to improve their quality, providing foundation for their future careers. Unfortunately, with an irresistible trend of the social development, college graduates are not scarce resources anymore. More and more youth have completed their university dreams, however, the problems of employment are getting worse. In recent years, there is a “no job opportunity or no employment even with job opportunity” contradictory phenomena in the labor market. Consequently, some college students have to face unemployment once they graduate from college. The group of unemployed graduates have grew so significantly that the state leaders and scholars pay extensive attention to it. Therefore, we investigated the factors that influence the employment of college graduates. And the present study is aimed at providing realistic and theoretical evidence for the government, universities, enterprises and college graduates to solve the college graduate employment issues in the current situation.First of all, we combed the literatures. Foreign studies discussed three major factors that affect the employment of college graduates: the graduates themselves, the universities and the employers. And the domestic studies mainly analyzed the effects of aggregate supply and demand, contradiction between supply and demand structure, employment discrimination, psychological of college graduates, culture of school-enterprise and so on. Secondly, we combed the classical theory of employment according to the time and the consecution, providing useful guidelines for the theoretical analysis of the study. Thirdly, we summarized the overall situation of current college graduates’ employment, and discussed the influence factors of it in three aspects: labor supply, labor demand and the interaction between labor supply and demand. Fourthly, combined with theoretical analysis concludes, we investigated the survey data of college graduates employment situation in Chengdu and used the positivism analytic methods of SPSS19.0 software to verify impact factors of the college graduates employment. Finally, advices and countermeasures were developed according to the conclusions of theory and empirical analysis. The present study is divided into six chapters. The first chapter is the preface, including background, research significance, reviews, main content, ideas and methods. The second chapter is devoted largely to a description of concepts and classical theory of employment. Chapter 3 gives a brief overview of the general status of college graduates’ employment, and the total imbalance between supply and demand, chronic shortfall of supply and demand and the interregional imbalance between supply and demand were revealed. The core part of the whole study consists of chapter 4 and 5. With some economic theories, the effects of labor supply, labor demand, and the interaction between supply and demand on college graduate employment were explored respectively in chapter 4. In the part of labor supply, we focus on the effects of reservation wage, social capital, human capital, requirement of job-hunting and preferences on employment of college graduates. In the part of labor demand, we analyze how the social demands impact the employment of college students. In the part of interaction between supply and demand, transmission of government’s information of employment were highlighted. We concluded that factors influencing college graduates’ employment included reservation wage, social capital, human capital, requirement of job-hunting, preferences on employment of college graduates, social demands and transmission of government’s information of employment. And the reservation wage played a most special and vital role. To verify the conclusion in chapter 4, factor analysis, cross-tabs analysis, correlation Analysis and optimal scaling analysis are employed to analyze the questionnaire data of employment situation of college graduates in Chengdu in chapter 5. At the same time, by using optimal scaling analysis, we get the linear equation of reservation wage which has the greatest effect on college graduate employment. It has been further proved that the factors, such as graduation time, degree of education, budget of job hunting, time of learning the employment knowledge, practical experience, gender and so on, can affect the reservation wage in various degrees. The sixth chapter put forward several methods to solve the present problems of college graduate employment, such as adjust reservation wage reasonably, strengthen accumulation of social experience and relationship, promote the human capital, establish correct outlook of job-hunting, enhancing psychological coaching, strengthen the cooperation between college and enterprises, strengthen propaganda of employment information.
