| By the end of the last century, the policy of “double guaranteesâ€(guarantees of both education and job assignments) in China’s higher education had shifted into “double self-relianceâ€(self-reliance both in education expenses and career selection), prompting a fall of college students’ status from the top of the “pyramid†down to the “earthâ€, they have been under tremendous employment pressure upon becoming an ordinary member amidst the employment market; on the other hand, the constant-expanding insufficiency of labor demand and the structural disequilibrium on the labor supply and demand also result in college students’ faltering paces in their paths of job seeking. In recent years, a number of problems with college students in employment have been revealed, such as a lack of career orientation and career planning, dislocation of career values and a lack of relevant common knowledge in law, etc., among which the employment integrity among college students is one of the high-profile issues.Integrity is a traditional virtue of Chinese nation, a basic standard in the socialist market economy, and, to a greater extent, the manifestation of an outstanding personality of college students. Employment integrity of college students is of great significance to society, higher education institutes, employer companies and college students themselves; on the contrary, the problem of dishonesty occurred during the employment courses of college students also begets baneful effects. At present, the overall performance of college students’ integrity during employment has been good; however, dishonesty problems happened in the course of employment are also too many to enumerate, mainly represented by: resumes falsification, bragging and self-appreciating during interviews, certificate and award forging, arbitrary contract breaching and frequent job-hopping, which presents characteristics such as contradiction between cognition and behavior, a utilitarian tendency for their purpose of employment dishonesty, diversification with the counterfeit approaches and universality with dishonesty behaviors.As a complicated social problem, employment dishonesty among college students has profound root causes both resulting from objective social factors, like negative social environments, inadequate school guidance, absence of family integrity education, and mal-inducements from employer companies, etc., and from subjective factors of individuals, i.e., the deficiency of employment competitiveness with college students themselves, dislocation of career values, low levels of social-responsibility awareness, etc. To strengthen the construction of employment integrity among college students, the government should assume its “baton†roles in the construction of social integrity in order to establish a favorable social integrity environment; schools should perform its duties of becoming a “major battlefield†where the cultivation of integrity morals among college students can be achieved in order to enhance the integrity education and management among students; families should highlight their “guiding†roles in shaping the morals of young people in order to set up good models of integrity; employer companies should flexibly implement their right of “chief examiner†in their selection and employment of employees in order to create a harmonious employment relationship; college students should identify their “player†status in employment competitions in order to promote employability. |
